feeling stuck living on the road?

Stuck in the Mud? When you're stuck in mud, your tires are likely sinking into soft, wet ground, and may have trouble gripping due to the slippery surface.

To Dos:

  1. Shift to Low Gear/4WD: If your vehicle has 4WD, engage it. For manual transmissions, shift to a lower gear. This gives you more power to break free.

  2. Create Traction: Place traction aids like gravel, sand, or even car mats under the tires to help them grip. You can also use branches or rocks if available.

  3. Rock the Van: Gently shift between forward and reverse to rock the vehicle. This helps loosen the tires from the mud. Avoid spinning the wheels too much, as it can make the situation worse.

Stuck in a hole? In a hole, your vehicle is usually stuck because one or more of the tires are deeply embedded in a depression or rut, limiting the range of motion. The ground around the tires may not be as soft as mud, but it’s often uneven, causing your van to be stuck in a more rigid position.

To Dos:

  • Check for Obstructions: Make sure nothing is obstructing the undercarriage of the vehicle or the tires. If possible, clear debris around the tires to allow better movement.

  • Try to Rock the Vehicle: Similar to mud, gently shift between forward and reverse to break free. This helps the tires lift out of the depression.

  • Use Traction Aids: If your tires are spinning, create traction by placing items like wood, rocks, or sand under the tires to give them something to grip. A shovel can also help clear dirt from around the tires

In both cases, if you can’t free the van, consider calling for roadside assistance or using a tow rope to pull the vehicle out.
